In those days a helmsman who crashed the king%u2019 barge and broke the prow was punishable by death. Knowing full well of the law, he deliberately crashed the barge into a tree so as they save the king from traveling further into areas where assassins were waiting. The king refused to have him beheaded, but Panthai Norasing, insisted to take the death penalty in order to protect the law. It is believed that he was beheaded in front of a monastery which is now called Panthai Norasing Temple. As a tribute to his sacrifice, a shrine housing his human-size monument in steering posture was built at the spot. Not far from Panthai Norasing Shrine stands another shrine dedicated to his wife. There is an old wooden pole which is presumed to be his beheading pole.
